Do you love using videos in the classroom? Then you must try Edpuzzle! Edpuzzle is an amazingly easy-to-use website that takes videos to the next level!
With Edpuzzle you can crop videos to only show the most relevant section and then embed questions for students to answer throughout!
You start by searching for videos from their several partner sites. If you found a video somewhere else, you can also upload it directly. Furthermore, you can search through Edpuzzle’s library of teacher-created material, and use or edit something pre-made!
Once your video is complete, you have the option to share the link with students or create a classroom and assign it to them. Everything is also beautifully integrated with Google Classroom! The designers really knew what they were doing!
If you create a class and assign the video to students, Edpuzzle will supply you with beautiful reports, full of useful data about how they answered. This can be incredibly useful for formative assessments and grading.
So how can this be useful in the world language classroom?
For me, I see multiple applications! I am going to use it for flipped grammar lessons, so we spend less time note taking and more time practicing! Students will take a video quiz for homework as their first exposure to the concept, and then we will be able to actually apply it in class the next day. I also see it as an incredibly useful tool for students who are frequently absent or need homebound tutoring for an extended illness. They can still learn what was taught in class that day, and I can still assess their understanding remotely. Lastly, I find this to be a great tool to expose students to listening comprehension. Rather than listen to my voice all the time, they can listen to native speakers or watch fun cartoons in Spanish and still receive input at home. The possibilities are endless!
