Apples to Apples Interactive game
If you’ve ever played the hilarious party game Apples to Apples, you will love this DIY version for your spanish classroom to practice comparisons! Keep reading for some free printables to make your own interactive game for students!
How to play
1. Before the activity, print and cut out a set of these spanish comparison cards for students to work in groups of 3-4. I recommend printing these on colored paper and laminating them if possible.
2. Pass out a stack of blank note cards to each group.
(Tip: I cut them in half because you go through a lot!)
3. Give students 60 seconds to generate as many notecards as they can on a given topic by writing one word on each card. Assign one person to write while each group member gives suggestions to avoid having too many repeats. Rotate writers each time you change the topic.
Suggested topics: Super heroes, male / female celebrities, teachers, hobbies / sports, TV shows, books, animals, foods.
By letting the students create the cards, you will increase engagement and rest assured that the words on the cards are up-to-date references that they will enjoy! To save time and resources, you can just have your first class of the day create cards and then save them in baggies to use throughout the day.
4. Have groups trade their cards and pass out the pre-printed colored cards to each group.
5. Each player starts with five white note cards. The dealer chooses one colored card. Each player must choose two of their cards and write down a sentence using the comparison on the colored card.
6. The dealer will decide which sentence is his/her favorite, and that person wins a point. Students select new cards and the dealer rotates each round!
Speaking practice with comparisons
This activity is a great way to practice Spanish comparisons during distance learning! Students can work independently or with a small group in a breakout room to go through the animated slides. Once they answer each question, the answer will appear for immediate feedback.
Listening practice with Spanish comparisons
I love listening activities for my students! In this activity, students will complete a series of activities while listening to 4 native speakers make comparisons.
